![]() Volunteer would work under the direction of the park's museum curator, or ranger with curatorial duties. Previous training is useful, but not necessary, except for conservation work. Duties may include maintaining paper record files, entering data into the computer, locating objects for inventory, cleaning objects, and conservation work. The collection consists of a variety of objects, photographs, and documents pertaining to commercial fishing, logging, lighthouse keeping, and farming as well as natural history specimens, such as animal skins and mounted insects. ![]() Volunteer would help document and care for the park's museum collection. Parkwide training and orientation would be provided. Duties may include: presenting interpretive talks, walks, or conducting tours of natural and/or historic sites such as the Lakeshore Trail, Manitou Fish Camp, or Hokenson Brothers Fishery accompanying Apostle Islands Cruise Service cruises to assist with tours at island locations conducting environmental education programs for school groups or presenting slide programs for school groups or other organizations. Volunteer would greet visitors and conduct interpretive guided tours at various sites in the national lakeshore and/or provide outreach to school groups or other organizations. ![]() Parkwide orientation and training would be provided. Duties may include: operating an information desk answering visitor questions taking campground reservations and issuing camping and diving permits opening and closing the building operating AV equipment providing park program and safety information conducting over-the-counter sales maintaining visitation records designing and updating bulletin boards accompanying cruise service tours giving interpretive talks or conducting tours, and on occasion, assisting with basic custodial duties. Volunteer would provide visitor information and services at one of the park's visitor centers. Interpretive Assistant (Information Desk) Volunteer would greet and help orient tent and boat campers clean campsites, picnic area and boat dock clean and disinfect vault toilets, replenish supplies and notify supervisor when the vault toilet needs to be pumped hike and perform light trailwork including trail litter pickup notify supervisor when hazardous conditions exist or submit work order requests for routine maintenance needs monitor visitor activities for infractions of lakeshore regulations provide visitor information and services and, administer emergency first aid when needed. assist Historic Structures Preservation maintenance workers with planned maintenance projects clean and disinfect vault toilets, replenish supplies and notify supervisor when vault needs to be pumped maintain visitation records and monitor visitor activities for infractions of lakeshore regulations.
